Great Gospel Songs is a collection of 13 previously recorded songs by Ray Stevens that fall into the music genre of gospel. Ten out of the 13 selections first appeared on Stevens' gospel album Turn Your Radio On. There are also two singles that were released before that album - "Have a Little Talk With Myself" and his biggest non-comical hit "Everything Is Beautiful." "A Brighter Day" is an album track that was first included on his album Everything Is Beautiful.

Inside the album cover is an essay about Stevens' life by Don Ovens. The essay covers Stevens' early life and his career from the beginning to the time of the release of his album Turn Your Radio On.
